California State Capitol Visitor Center
Location
Sacramento, CA
Role
Project Manager / Project Architect (while @ Mark Cavagnero Associates)
The California State Capitol Visitor Center is conceived as more than just a mere entry point to the historic Capitol; it is envisioned as a dynamic tool for citizen education and empowerment.
A prominent sloped walkway will gracefully guide visitors and school groups below ground level to the entrance of the Visitor's Center. Within this center, visitors will find classrooms and innovative educational components that delve into the workings of state government and the myriad of symbols embodied by the Capitol building. At the heart of the main space lies a substantial skylight, positioned at ground level, offering captivating views of the building's historic west side from within.
The museum itself will boast engaging exhibits designed to instill a profound sense of awe, appreciation, and deeper connection to our state and its governance. Visitors will be encouraged to envision themselves and their communities within the context of the Capitol, fostering a greater understanding of our shared civic identity.
